2048
Slide, combine and keep a little space free. Four directions are all you need.

- Think between moves

2048 is easy to explain and surprisingly easy to overcrowd. Each move slides the whole board in one direction. Matching numbers merge, a new tile appears, and the open spaces you had a moment ago become a resource worth protecting. Reaching the title’s number is the goal, but making a board that still has options is the immediate problem.
A useful starting habit is to keep your largest tile near one corner and arrange smaller values beside it. This is a planning aid rather than a guaranteed solution: new tiles can still force awkward decisions. Before moving, look at the entire row or column. The merge you want may also pull a helpful tile away from its place.
We link to the creator’s Classic edition. Its restraint is a large part of the appeal: there is no countdown pushing you through a decision, and the board communicates the situation at a glance. It works well when you want a compact puzzle, although a promising run can easily become longer than the break you intended.
Controls
- Use the arrow keys on a keyboard, or swipe across the board on a touch device.
- Each direction moves all tiles as far as the board allows.
- New Game starts over. Use it only when you are ready to give up the current board.
Rules
- Equal-numbered tiles combine when a move pushes them together.
- A move that changes the board adds a new tile. Keep space for future moves.
- Make a 2048 tile to reach the main goal. A full board with no legal merge ends the run.
Who it suits
Players who like small rulesets, visible patterns and thinking a few moves ahead. A good choice for either a keyboard or a touch screen.

Browser & device notes
The Classic edition loaded and responded to arrow-key moves in desktop Chromium. The official instructions also describe swipe controls; a physical phone was not tested.
